Description:  Here is the fifth of eight successive original photos by Douglas C. Jones that were taken at the Coaling Tipple in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1957. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6773, an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain" built in Juniata during November of 1930 and retired in September of 1955 after 25 years of faithful service. It this context, the tender's just been refilled with coal; now it's time to replenish the tender's reservoir.

Description:  Here is a photo that was included in the "Altoona Area Railroad Pictorial History" edited by Linda White and published in 1996 by The Altoona Mirror, page 39. Photo Caption: "M-1 locomotive sits at the northwest corner of the Erecting & Machine Shop in this photo taken in 1957." Given the purported date of this photo, my best guess at the number of this locomotive is PRR engine #6774, an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain" built in Juniata during November of 1930, retired in February of 1956, and here being "cannibalized" for parts. Alas....
