D.W. Thickens caught both of these Southern Pacific switchers at an unknown location. SP #1300 was built by Baldwin in 1898 as a 2-8-2T for the New Mexicao Coal Co. as # 101. It went through many owners (A&SM 101 in 1898, EP&NE 101 in 1903, EP&SW 401 in 1904, EP&SW 201 in 1908 reblt to 0-8-0 in 1912 at El Paso becoming EP&SW 4) before ending up on the SP via EP&SW in 1924 and being renumbered 3rd #1300 and classified as Se-1, scrapped in July 1934. As for #1067, it was one of the many rebuilt by Sacramento Shops from old 4-6-0's between 1895-1902, and reclassified as S-3. |

SP 0-8-0 #1300 - Southern Pacific |
| Description: |
Southern Pacific 0-8-0 #1300 looks like it has finally hit the end of the track as it sits in the Oakland, CA yard. This may have been the very last photo taken before it was scrapped. The 0-8-0 yard switcher had a long and interesting life starting with being built by Burnham, Wms & Co (Baldwin predecessor) in July of 1898 originally as New Mexico Coal Co 2-8-2T #101 (serial #16103) but it went through several rosters before ending up on the Southern Pacific one. Shortly after being built in 1898, it became Alamagordo & Sacramento 2-8-2T #101 > in 1903 to El Paso & Southwestern 2-8-2T #101 > in 1904, renumbered EP&SW 401 and then #420 > in 1908, renumbered EP&SW #201 > in 1912 rebuilt to 0-8-0 > in 1913 renumbered EP&SW #4 > in 1924 absorbed by SP as #1300 > vacated in July of 1932 at Watsonville Jct > in July of 1934, scrapped at West Oakland, CA. The photo was taken by rail fan Guy Dunscomb and is now in my rr collection. |
