DMIR 2-8-8-4 #232 - Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range |
| Description: |
Here is another view of Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range 2-8-8-4 #232 but this time it appears to be sitting in a dead/scrap line at Proctor, MN. Built by Baldwin in January of 1943 (serial #64711), it was an ideal power source for extremely long drags of ore cars heading from the ore docks on Lake Superior to the Two Harbors, MN, ore docks. Unfortunately, the loco was retired and scrapped insold for scrap in 1962 - most have been a preety penny of a sale as large as it was! Specs - 63" drivers, impressive 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, massive engine wt of 699,700 lb and massive tractive force of 140,000 lb. The photographer was Burdell L. Bulgrin. |
